This lesson
and the others that follow are for the older puppy, and it is unlikely
that proper results can be obtained until the dog is six months of age,
although preparatory training can prove useful.Nohing irritates more
than a dog that rushes off as soon as released from the leash, not to
return in spite of his owner's entreaties.Try such a dog first with a
titbit, calling him by name, and enticing him to move towards you with
the command *Come*.

The a average puppy will be attracted to the morsel, and when he takes it he should be praised. The lesson should be repeated unyil he approaches you without hesitation and will do so without discouragement if the titbit is not given. On the other hans,a rebel puppy should be kept on 20 ft light check-cord.When freed from his leash he will dash off as usual. Call `Come `he will not respond; then, just as the cord is nearing its extent call again `Comw`.Your call will coincide with the cord jerking him to halt. |

He will be suprised and not a little shocked. A few such lessons and the command will arrest his progress before the cord does. He can the be cajoled back to the handler. |
