Abyssinian Sand Terrier

              

 

Description: Head: Broad in the skull, with long, tapered muzzle. Eyes: Medium and Almond-shaped, not bulging. Ears: Large, bat-like, and thin in texture. Nose: Black and self-colored according to coat. Bite: Scissor or level. Neck: Slightly arched and thickening as it approaches shoulder. Chest: Deep and broad, with depth on level with the elbows. Body: Level back with rounded rump. Legs: Slender with hare feet. Tail: Low, long and tapered to a fine point. Movement: Good reach, with well balanced movement. Temperament: Fearless, loyal, and willing to please.

 

Hairless (and the nearly hairless) do have different needs for physical comfort including more conscientious attention to their warmth and cleansing as frequent bathing can dry out their skin.  This breed is somewhat more active than other smaller breeds of this type and makes a good partner for a variety of activities.  Noted as willing to please and affectionate.  Few breeders, breed clubs and lack of documentation (such a breeder ethics) make it a bit challenging to assess the claims and or qualities of the dogs of any one breeder.

Care: The Abyssinian Sand Terrier requires very little grooming because the dog is mostly hairless. This breed should only be bathed when necessary so that the dog's skin does not dry out.**Training: The Abyssinian Sand Terrier needs to be trained for obedience very early in life, as a puppy.**Activity: The Abyssinian Sand Terrier loves to exercise and requires moderate daily activity. This breed of dog makes a good jogging partner and loves to run alongside a bicycle.
