German Spitz

There have been German Spitz breeds for many years, varying in size from the tiniest at about 5 Ibs in weight to the largest in the 45 Ibs range. A recently accepted version in two sizes by shoulder measurement has been introdiced to the Kennel Club's list of breeds. Both sizes are german Spitz - the klein variety should measure between 9 and 11 inches, while the Mittel stands between 11. 5 and 14 inches. Otherwise the two should be indentical in shape and characteristics. Interestigly, there are no restrictions on colour. The German Spitz is an independent character with a happy outlook on life. His harsh outer coatcoulped with his thick undercoat insulate him against all weathers, whil his high set, well curled tail and his brisk movement give him an air of considerable importance in his bearing. Not a difficult breed to maintain as long as his grooming is thorough. He makes an ideal pet quite capable of living with old and young alike.
