Standing very nearly a yard high at the shoulder, the wolfhound is not only the tallest of all hounds, but he is the biggest breed of them all. And the Irish Wolfhound should not be quite so heavy or massive as the Great Dane, but more so than the Deerhound, which in general type he should resemble otherwise. Of great size and commanding appearance, very muscular, strongly though gracefully built, movements easy and active; head and neck carried high; the tail carried with an upward sweep with a slight cure towards the extremily. In spite of his size, he is one of the most gentle of dogs, with an expression which combines pride and calm, but which can occasionally light up with genial mischief as his dark eyes flash. He also needs food in a fair quantity, especially in his growing years, when his rapid increase in size requires attention to a high calibre dietif his huge frame is to be properly developed. A great delightful dog but not to be taken lightly
