Kombai   

 

     

   History 

The Combai is a very ancient breed of dog, used in hunting as early as the 9th century B.C. when the Marava Kings held sway over South India. The
army of the Marudhu brothers defended their fort at Kalayarkoil with the Kombai against the East India Company. The Kombai was used for hunting boar, bison and deer.The Combai was used for hunting boar, bison and deer.Kombai named after city near madurai. It is one of hound breed, sorter musculine body than Rajapalayam. The color of Kombai usually Brown with Black mask dark lining on back on sometimes, Pendent ears.The "celebrities" from Tamil Nadu is the Kombai/Combai. The Kombai, named after a town near Madurai, The Combai is a pure bear-hound. He is slightly shorter but the build of the body is much that he appears heavier than the Rajapalayam. Appearance

The Combai is usually red or brown with a black mask, and with a dark line along the back. It is mostly tan in colour. The chief differences between the Rajapalayam and the Combai breeds are that the Combai has more powerful jaws, often with a black mouth, much more pendent ears, rich red colour

Temperament

As a guard dog with savage temper is like the Bull terrier in temperament, the Combai is superior to the Rajapalayam.These dogs were used for hunting and keeping watch.

Faults  

  Any departure from the foregoing points should be considered a fault and the seriousness with which the fault should be regarded should be in exact proportion to its degree.

Note   Male  animals should have two apperently normal testicles fully descended into the scrotum.
